Sharing What’s Next with You
The Latest
We are thrilled to share that in December 2023, with overwhelming community support, the Calabasas City Council unanimously approved our plan for the future.
We are incredibly grateful to the hundreds of Calabasas community members who shared their thoughts and priorities about The Commons. This meaningful community engagement helped ensure that we continue to provide an exceptional experience for guests of all ages and meet the needs of Calabasas, today and tomorrow.
We will continue to keep this page updated with relevant information as this process continues.
Project Plan
What does the plan include?
The Commons at Calabasas will include new retail, restaurants, greenspace and 80 new apartment homes. Though most of The Commons will remain the same, the plan will enhance a small portion of the west side of the center, including 12-14 new shops and restaurants. This new area will also include beautiful, meandering paseos designed to improve the pedestrian experience by allowing a leisurely walk, window shopping, and connecting with friends and neighbors.
Why are you re-envisioning The Commons?
The Commons at Calabasas has proudly served the community for nearly three decades. To ensure The Commons remains vibrant for decades to come, we collaborated with the community drawing on the wisdom of the people who live and work nearby – to ensure The Commons remains the go-to center to work, shop, eat, live, and enjoy family and friends.
Will there be expanded greenspace to enjoy outdoor activities and leisure?
Yes, the plan includes beautiful new landscaping including a family-friendly greenspace designed to be a perfect place for community gatherings, children’s events, or simply for connecting with a friend or enjoying a good book.
Is the movie theater part of the updated plans for The Commons at Calabasas?
A movie theater made a lot of sense when The Commons opened in 1998, before the advent of streaming services. However, there is widespread understanding that the way we consume entertainment has changed over the years, and as we look toward the future, a movie theater at The Commons is no longer a sustainable use. The new uses will ensure the Commons remains vibrant for years to come.
When was the plan approved?
In December 2023, with overwhelming community support, the Calabasas City Council unanimously approved our plan. The plan was shaped by two years of meetings with residents and neighbors who took the time to provide us with invaluable feedback and ideas.
What’s Next?
When will construction begin?
Construction began in January 2026.
When will construction be finished?
The new residential building will be completed in Fall 2027; however, we plan to open the new shops and restaurants first—about midway through the project. When finished, the property will be an even better gathering place for family, friends and guests, and will feature a variety of curated new shops, restaurants with outdoor dining, and a meandering paseo with wide sidewalks and beautiful landscaping.
What should I know about construction?
We continue to carefully plan our construction schedule and logistics to minimize disruption as much as possible. Our goal is to ensure you can continue enjoying your favorite shops and restaurants throughout the process.
As construction moves forward, we’ll provide regular updates on our website, including a rolling three-month look ahead with the schedule and other important information.
Current Timeline: July 2026 through September 2026
- New Shops & Restaurants: Construction is well underway on the new shops and restaurants. During this phase, some spaces will be turned over to our new tenants so they can begin building out their locations.
- New Apartment Homes: Construction is well underway on the parking structure that will serve the new apartment homes.
Will I still be able to shop and dine?
Absolutely. Our goal is to minimize any inconvenience so your everyday shopping, dining and strolling can continue as usual. Our top priority is maintaining the vibrant experience visitors know and love while enhancing the property for the future. You can expect the same level of convenience, service, and hospitality during this time.
Operating Hours
The Commons at Calabasas will remain open throughout the phases of construction, ensuring continuity of operations. All stores, restaurants, and amenities will continue to operate as usual. We are committed to delivering the same level of operational excellence to you and to our guests throughout construction.
At what times of the day will construction take place?
We have planned the construction schedule and logistics to minimize disruption to our guests and neighbors.
Much of the construction activity will take place prior to peak hours or outside of operating hours to ensure you will continue to be able to frequent your favorite shops and restaurants.
Parking Information
Will I still be able to access parking?
We know how important parking is to your experience. We will continue to offer plenty of convenient surface parking close to stores and restaurants during construction. As we move forward in the process, we will be keeping the community informed about what to expect.
Valet parking is available Friday through Sunday, from 11AM to 7:30PM, located near SUGARFISH by Sushi Nozawa and Polacheck’s Jewelers.
Will I still be able to access The Commons the same way?
Our priority is to keep entrances, parking and walkways open and safe for both guests and tenants.
To improve circulation and enhance overall safety, a portion of the existing two-way drive aisle between the two new buildings will be converted to a one-way drive aisle.
When the project is complete, will there be additional parking to accommodate the new shops, restaurants and apartment homes?
Parking is just as important to us as it is to our tenants and guests. To that end our plan includes new parking spaces to ensure there is plenty of parking for the new residents as well as our guests.
